Four Exercises For Long-Term Fitness

Fitness should be a lifelong pursuit. As the health and fitness trends continue to evolve, some exercises have survived the test of time. Through the years, these routines have helped people become stronger and healthier. Experts suggest a combination of these routines to ensure health. Below are four exercises for long-term fitness:

Squats: This move works out the lower part of the body, developing the hips and the core. Aside from strengthening these parts, doing squats also helps improve a person's balance. Those who want to prevent knee and back pain must regularly do this exercise.

Sit-ups: Many people perform this exercise as soon as they wake up. This is because sit-ups can be considered an "easy" exercise move. However, one should also be aware of the proper posture. The sit-ups will always be a workout staple that will surely strengthen the back and the core.

Lunges: Those who want to improve their posture should include lunges in their routine. This move also improves the stability of both the upper and lower body. For stability and balance, keep the spine at a spiral position and prevent unnecessary pressure on the toes.

Push-ups: Push-ups are the go-to workout for upper body strength. This workout focuses on the arms, elbows, chest, and spine. While the position of the legs can be modified, it is important to keep the upper body in the right position to develop strength and stability.

These exercises should always be a part of a person's workout routine. Even for those who can spend time at the gym, these moves will give the body the boost it needs.

Glorious Moments In U.S. Baseball History

Baseball, just like other massively celebrated sports, has its share of memorable moments. Ask members of the media, baseball executives, players, and historians themselves: here are some that will probably go down in baseball and sports history as some of the best and most glorious.

Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier: Robinson’s debut for the Brooklyn Dodgers in Major League Baseball back in 1947 faced racism in and out of the field, as it came eight years before the recognized start of the Civil Rights Movement.

Red Sox selling Babe Ruth to Yankees: Without this historic sale, the Yankees wouldn’t have Murderer’s Row, the so-called “called shot” (more on this later), four World Series titles from 1923 to 1932 and the deadly Lou Gehrig-Babe Ruth combination, to name a few.

Babe Ruth’s called shot: Back on Oct. 1, 1932, Babe Ruth’s team, the Yankees, battled it out with the Chicago Cubs. Ruth hit a three-run homer, but the opponent came back and tied the score at 4-4 following four innings. In the fifth, Ruth stepped into the box: following the first pitch, a called strike, he pointed. The angle of his arm remains debatable to many, and then a couple more times he gestured. With the count 2-2, he slammed the ball over the center field wall for a homer and then broke into his home run trot. The Yankees bagged the victory 7-5. Did he call it? Ruth is long gone but everyone still practically argues about it.

Lou Gehrig Appreciation Day: This took place July 4, 1939, or two months after his final game, between games of a doubleheader versus the Washington Senators. Gehrig received numerous plaques and gifts, his number four was announced retired immediately, and he gave his famous speech that will reverberate for decades to come.

Different Roofing Materials To Choose From

There is an impressive range of durable roofing materials out there that will last through UV ray exposure, wind, and precipitation. Learn the perfect fit for your home and what can best protect you from the elements.

Slate roof: With a lifespan of more than 100 years, slate is so durable as it’s real stone laid down thick on the roof. Note, however, that sufficient truss strength is necessary to hold up the heavy load, and broken slate tiles should be replaced immediately.

Clay tile roof: Also with a lifespan of 100 years, Spanish tile roofs are a loyal roofing material. In fact, one will even find older Spanish tile roofs in great shape. Its Achilles heel isn’t decay or the slow sloughing off of grains, but the cracking of the terracotta tiles themselves.

Wood shake shingle roof: Wood shakes, split or sawn from the log, can withstand bad weather and UV ray exposure better than thin wood shingles. They can last longer by removing debris as soon as it falls on the roof, managing moss, and replacing split shakes right away.

Metal roof: These will probably last one’s lifetime and is even 100 percent recyclable at the end of its life. For maintenance, however, would be replacing the screws every 25 years or so as the rubber gaskets break down over time, thanks to UV exposure.

Rubber roof: This is great for repurposing old tires. Here, ground up rubber from tires is melted and then formed to resemble many other shingle designs. It’s highly durable, low maintenance, and available in a wealth of styles and colors.
